Aclovate Cream is indicated for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash, and psoriasis. It contains alclometasone dipropionate, which is a low- to medium-strength corticosteroid. This medication works by reducing the swelling, itching, and redness associated with these types of skin conditions.

Do’s

  • Apply a thin film of Aclovate Cream to the affected area and gently rub in as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 2 to 3 times daily.
  • Wash and dry your hands before using the cream.
  • Clean and dry the affected area before applying the medication.
  • Use the medication only for the condition for which it was prescribed.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if your condition lasts or gets worse after 2 weeks.

Don’ts

  • Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the treated area unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
  • Avoid applying the cream to the face, groin, or underarms, unless directed by your healthcare provider.
  • If applying near the eyes, avoid getting the cream in the eyes because this may worsen or cause glaucoma. Also, avoid getting the cream in the eyes, nose, or mouth. If contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water.
  • Do not use this medication on a child for longer than 3 weeks in a row unless directed to do so by the healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects:

  • Stinging, burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness of the skin when first applie

These effects should disappear in a few days as the body adjusts to the medication.

If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your healthcare provider promptly.

Rare Side Effects:

Rarely, this medication can be absorbed from the skin into the bloodstream, leading to side effects of too much corticosteroids. These side effects are more likely in children and in people who use this medication for a long time or over large areas of the skin. Tell your healthcare provider right away if any of the following side effects occur

  • Unusual/extreme tiredness
  • Weight loss
  • Headache
  • Swelling ankles/feet
  • Increased thirst/urination
  • Vision problems

Aclovate Cream should not be used on a child younger than 1 year old. Seek a healthcare provider's advice before using this medication on any child. Children can absorb larger amounts of this medication through the skin and may be more likely to experience side effects.

Aclovate Cream should not be shared with others and should only be used for the condition for which it was prescribed.

Aclovate Cream is classified as Pregnancy Category C. It is not known whether topical administration of topical corticosteroids could result in sufficient systemic absorption to produce detectable quantities in human milk. Therefore, caution should be exercised during lactation.

Special care may be needed when using Aclovate Cream. If applying this medicine to the diaper area of a child, it should not be covered with tight-fitting diapers or plastic pants.
