Deltasone Dispersible (Prednisone)

Do's

• Take Deltasone Dispersible exactly as directed by your healthcare provider or as stated on the label. Follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment.
• Take Deltasone Dispersible with food to help minimize stomach upset.
• Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking, as Deltasone Dispersible may interact with certain drugs.
• Follow any specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider regarding lab tests or medical exams while taking Deltasone Dispersible, especially if you are using the medication for an extended period.
• Store Deltasone Dispersible at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
• Contact your healthcare provider if you miss a dose of Deltasone Dispersible for guidance on what to do.

Don'ts

• Do not exceed the prescribed dosage of Deltasone Dispersible or use it for a longer duration than recommended by your healthcare provider.
• Do not abruptly stop taking Deltasone Dispersible without consulting your healthcare provider, as this may cause withdrawal symptoms.
• Avoid close contact with individuals who have contagious illnesses while taking Deltasone Dispersible, as it may suppress the immune system.
• Do not use Deltasone Dispersible during pregnancy or while breastfeeding without consulting your healthcare provider, as it may not be recommended.
• Do not take Deltasone Dispersible if you have certain medical conditions, such as fungal infections or untreated infections, unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Common side effects of Deltasone dispersible include:

• Weight gain (especially around the face and middle of the body)
• Increased appetite
• Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
• Mood swings, irritability, or anxiety
• Acne or other skin problems
• Increased sweating
• Heartburn or indigestion
• Upset stomach or diarrhea

Serious side effects of Deltasone dispersible include:

• Increased risk of infection (including tuberculosis and fungal infections)
• Thinning of the bones (osteoporosis)
• Cataracts or glaucoma
• High blood pressure
• Muscle weakness
• Mental health problems, such as psychosis or mania
• Stomach ulcers

• Vision problems, such as blurred vision or seeing halos around lights
• Severe stomach pain
• Black stools or bloody vomit
• Signs of infection, such as fever, chills, or sore throat
• Mental health problems, such as hallucinations, delusions, or severe mood swings
• Seizures

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Deltasone dispersible, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Consult your healthcare provider before taking Deltasone dispersible if you have any allergies, especially to prednisone (the active ingredient).

Share your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have any of the following conditions: infections, heart problems, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, kidney or liver disease, stomach/intestinal problems, bone loss, mental health conditions, eye diseases, diabetes, mineral imbalance, seizures, blood clots, or bleeding problems.

Prolonged use of Deltasone dispersible can weaken your body's response to stress. Inform your healthcare provider about this medication if you have upcoming surgery, emergency treatment, or a serious illness/injury.

• Side effects: Be aware of unusual tiredness or weight loss and report them to your healthcare provider immediately.
• Medical alert: If using long-term, consider carrying a warning card or medical ID bracelet stating your use of this medication.

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Deltasone dispersible) before any surgery procedure.

Deltasone dispersible may mask infection symptoms and increase your chance of getting infections. Avoid people with contagious illnesses and talk to your healthcare provider if you've been exposed to an infection.

The liquid form of Deltasone dispersible may contain sugar and/or alcohol. Consult your healthcare provider if you have diabetes, liver disease, or require limiting these substances.

Inform your healthcare provider about Deltasone dispersible use before any immunizations/vaccinations, especially live vaccines. Avoid contact with people who recently received live vaccines.

Deltasone dispersible may cause stomach bleeding. Limit alcohol consumption while using this medication to reduce the risk.

Older adults are more susceptible to certain side effects like bone loss/pain, stomach bleeding, and mental/mood changes.

Consult your healthcare provider for details and monitor your child's growth regularly. Long-term use of Deltasone dispersible may slow down a child's growth. 

Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. Deltasone dispersible should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. 

Infants born to mothers using Deltasone for a long time may have hormone problems. Report symptoms like nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, or weakness in your newborn to your healthcare provider right away.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding. Deltasone dispersible passes into breast milk but is unlikely to cause harm.
