Omnaris Nasal Spray (Ciclesonide)

Do’s

• Before starting to use Omnaris Nasal Spray, carefully read the patient information leaflet provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
• Gently blow your nose before using the nasal spray.
• Shake the container gently before each use.
• Remove the dust cap.
• Follow the instructions on how to properly prime the bottle. This is necessary when you first use each bottle or if you have not used it for 4 days. Priming ensures that the pump is working properly and delivers the correct dose.
• Use Omnaris Nasal Spray as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once a day. Follow the detailed instructions provided by your healthcare provider for using the spray.
• After each use, wipe the spray tip with a clean tissue and replace the protective cap.
• If the spray tip becomes blocked, do not try to unblock it using a sharp object. Refer to the Patient Information Leaflet for correct instructions on unblocking the spray bottle.
• Keep track of the number of sprays used from each container. Discard the container after you have used the number of sprays specified on the manufacturer's package or after 4 months from the time you removed the bottle from the foil pouch, whichever comes first.
• Use Omnaris Nasal Spray regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.
• Omnaris Nasal Spray may not work immediately. Some people may start experiencing the medication's effects within 2 days, but it may take up to 2 weeks for relief from seasonal allergies and up to 5 weeks for relief from year-round allergies.
• If using Omnaris Nasal Spray to prevent seasonal allergy symptoms, start using it 2-4 weeks before the pollen season begins.
• If your condition persists or worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Do not exceed more than 2 sprays in each nostril daily, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
• Avoid spraying the medication in your eyes or directly onto the nasal septum (the wall between the two nostrils).

Common Side Effects: 

• Headache
• Nosebleeds (epistaxis)
• Nasal inflammation (nasopharyngitis)
• Ear pain 

Less Common Side Effects:

• Nasal discomfort
• Cough
• Sore throat
• Sinusitis
• Upper respiratory tract infections 

Not all individuals will experience these side effects, and some may not experience any side effects at all. If you have any concerns or questions about the side effects of Omnaris Nasal Spray, consult with your healthcare provider.

Although it is not likely that your body will absorb enough ciclesonide to cause serious side effects, inform your healthcare provider if you experience any steroid-related symptoms such as irregular menstrual periods, acne, increased hair growth, swelling, rapid weight gain, roundness of the face, increased sweating, depression, anxiety, or unusual thoughts or behavior.

If you have recently experienced nasal ulcers, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma, avoid using Omnaris Nasal Spray until healing has occurred.

Nasal and inhaled corticosteroid use, including Omnaris Nasal Spray, has been associated with glaucoma and cataracts. If you notice any changes in your vision while using Omnaris Nasal Spray, inform your healthcare provider.

Hypersensitivity reactions, such as angioedema, loss of consciousness, nasal edema, dyspnea, and nasal septum perforation, have been reported in association with the use of Omnaris Nasal Spray. If you experience any of these reactions, seek medical attention.

Corticosteroids may cause a reduction in growth velocity when administered to pediatric patients. Monitor growth routinely in pediatric patients using Omnaris Nasal Spray.
