Plan B Emergency Contraceptive (Levonorgestrel)

Drug Description : Plan B is a formulation of levonorgestrel that is used as an emergency contraception. Plan B works in the same way as other birth control contraceptive medicines; it prevents ovulation and changes the cervical mucus in the lining of the uterus, however, Plan B is designed to be a much stronger formulation and should not be used on a regular basis under any circumstances.Plan B tablets should be stored in an area that is protected from heat and moisture. Keep Plan B tablets at room temperature.Plan B should be taken in the exact fashion that is outlined on the packaging directions. If the packaging directions are not clear, or you are confused by the packaging directions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification and instruction. Plan B is generally taken in two doses, the first within seventy-two hours of unprotected sex, and the second should be taken twelve hours after the first dose. Without correct timing, Plan B can be ineffective. Within three weeks of taking Plan B, you should schedule an appointment to confirm that you are not pregnant and that no unwanted side effects have occurred. Plan B should not be taken by pregnant women, or seventy-two hours after unprotected sex. Plan B should not be used by anyone who is under the age of seventeen. Because of its high concentration of levonogestrel, Plan B should not be used as a routine method of contraception.If you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have diabetes, you may wish to speak to your doctor before taking Plan B, as it may not be safe for you to do so.
