Medrol (Methylprednisolone)

Do's

• Take Medrol exactly as directed by your healthcare provider, with food or milk. 
• Follow the prescribed dosage and schedule strictly. 
• Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully as different dosing schedules exist. 
• Consult your healthcare provider if you have any questions about the dosing schedule. 
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition worsens or doesn't improve as this helps your healthcare provider assess the treatment's effectiveness and make adjustments if necessary. 

Don’t 

• Don't change your dose or take the medication more often than prescribed. 
• Don’t alter the dose or duration of Medrol on your own. 
• Don't increase your dose or take the medication more frequently, thinking it will improve your condition faster as it can increase your risk of side effects. 
• Don't stop suddenly without consulting your healthcare provider, as it can worsen your condition and lead to withdrawal symptoms. 

Your healthcare provider will gradually decrease the dose to minimize these risks. 

Common side effects may include:

• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Fatigue
• Pain or pressure in the throat or chest
• Nausea
• Upset stomach
• Changes in taste
• Skin rash
• Muscle weakness
• Depression
• Headache
• Changes in menstrual periods

Serious side effects:

• Signs of high levels of serotonin in the body, such as agitation, hallucinations, fever, rapid heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, or fainting
• Signs of a stroke, such as sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), severe headache, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance
• Allergic reactions, such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing
• Changes in emotions and mood
• Eye problems, such as changes in vision, eye pain, or bulging eyes
• Trouble urinating or changes in urination patterns
• Slow wound healing
• Muscle pain or weakness
• Swelling of ankles, feet, or hands
• Wounds that won't heal
• Low potassium levels in the blood

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Medrol,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you have allergies to methylprednisolone, prednisone, or any other ingredients in Medrol.

Inform your healthcare provider about pre-existing conditions like bleeding problems, bone issues, diabetes, eye diseases, heart problems, high blood pressure, infections, kidney/liver disease, mental health conditions, stomach/intestinal issues, or seizures.

Medrol may cause dizziness, so avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you feel safe. Alcohol and marijuana can worsen dizziness.

Medrol may increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Limit alcohol consumption and consult your healthcare provider for further advice.

Medrol can weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to infections. Avoid contact with those who have contagious illnesses and inform your healthcare provider of any potential exposure.

Tell your healthcare provider about Medrol use before undergoing these procedures. Avoid contact with people who recently received live vaccines.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications (including Medrol) before surgery.

Long-term use may affect your body's response to stress. Inform your healthcare provider about Medrol use before surgery, emergencies, or serious illnesses/injuries. Be alert for unusual fatigue or weight loss. Consider a medical ID bracelet if using Medrol long-term.

Increased risk of bone loss/pain, stomach bleeding, and mental/mood changes.

It may cause Children to Slow Down growth. Regular healthcare provider visits are recommended to monitor growth.

Medrol use during pregnancy requires careful consideration by your healthcare provider due to potential risks to the unborn baby. Medrol passes into breast milk but is unlikely to harm the infant. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
