Do’s

• The dosage of Lioresal Intrathecal is determined based on the individual's medical condition and response to treatment. Follow the specific dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
• Lioresal Intrathecal is usually administered using a drug pump that is implanted under the skin. A healthcare provider will fill and refill the pump with the medication. The pump delivers the medication directly into the intrathecal space.
• In some cases, patients may be trained to administer Lioresal Intrathecal to themselves at home. If you are using this medication at home, learn all the preparation and usage instructions from your healthcare provider. They will guide you on how to properly administer the medication.
• Before using Lioresal Intrathecal, visually inspect the product for any particles or discoloration. 
• Learn how to store and safely discard medical supplies related to Lioresal Intrathecal. 
• When using Lioresal Intrathecal over a long period, it may not work as effectively as before. If you notice that the medication is no longer providing the desired effect, talk to your healthcare provider about your concerns.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or worsens while using Lioresal Intrathecal. Additionally, be vigilant for any signs of infection at the pump site, such as fever, chills, redness, swelling, or pain. If you notice any signs of infection, report them to your healthcare provider promptly.

Don’ts

• Do not use the liquid if you notice any particles or discoloration
• Do not stop treatment with Lioresal Intrathecal without consulting your healthcare provider. Suddenly stopping the medication can lead to serious withdrawal symptoms. Your healthcare provider may gradually lower the dose to prevent withdrawal. If you experience any withdrawal reactions, report them to your healthcare provider immediately.

Common Side Effects: 

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Weakness
• Fatigue
• Headache
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Difficulty sleeping

Serious Side Effects: 

• Allergic reactions
• Respiratory depression (slow or shallow breathing)
• Low blood pressure
• Seizures
• Hallucinations
• Mental/mood changes
• Worsening of muscle spasms

Lioresal Intrathecal is usually administered using an implanted pump. Ensure that the pump is refilled on time and be familiar with the pump alarms and what to do if the alarm goes off.

If you have previously taken baclofen tablets or shots and experienced signs of withdrawal, inform your healthcare provider. They may need to adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

Nursing should be undertaken while a patient is receiving Lioresal Intrathecal only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risks to the infant. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 4 have not been established.

Prior to the implantation of a device for chronic intrathecal infusion of Lioresal Intrathecal, patients must show a response to Lioresal Intrathecal in a screening trial.
