Lioresal DS (Baclofen) is a medication used to treat muscle spasms.

These muscle spasms can be caused by certain conditions such as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury/disease.

Lioresal DS works by relaxing the muscles.

Do’s

  • Take it exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, with or without food.
  • Start with a low dose and increase gradually as directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Use a special measuring device for the liquid form (not a household spoon).
  • Shake the liquid suspension well before each dose.
  • For granules:
    • Shake the packet before use.
    • Empty the entire contents into your mouth and swallow.
    • Drink water if needed afterwards.
    • Mix with soft food/liquid (1 tablespoonful) if preferred, take within 2 hours of mixing.
  • Take it regularly at the same times each day.
  • Talk to your healthcare provider before stopping this medication.
  • Tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens.

Don'ts

  • Don't increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed.
  • Don't abruptly stop taking this medication.
  • Don't use expired medication.

Alcohol and marijuana (cannabis) can worsen dizziness or drowsiness caused by Lioresal DS. It's best to avoid them while taking this medication.

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take (prescription, non-prescription, and herbal) before any surgery.

Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects, especially drowsiness and mental/mood changes.
