Delestrogen (Estradiol)

Do’s

• When using this medication specifically to address symptoms in and around the vagina,  consider products applied directly inside the vagina before opting for medications taken orally, absorbed through the skin, or administered via injection.
• Use Delestrogen Vial exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, including dosage and frequency (usually every 4 weeks, or every 1-2 weeks for prostate cancer).
• Follow all preparation and injection instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
• Inspect the liquid for particles or discoloration before use. Do not use it if there are any.
• Warm the liquid to room temperature if crystals form due to cold storage.
• Inject a Delestrogen Vial into a muscle as directed by your healthcare provider.
• Use a calendar or reminder system to stay on track with your injection schedule.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your medical condition doesn't improve or worsens.

Don'ts

• Don't inject Delestrogen Vial if the liquid is discolored or contains particles.
• Don't inject Delestrogen Vial more often than prescribed.
• Don't attempt to inject a Delestrogen Vial yourself unless trained by a healthcare provider.

Common side effects may include:

• Nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop
• Mental/mood changes (such as depression, memory loss)
• Breast lumps
• Unusual vaginal bleeding (such as spotting, breakthrough bleeding, prolonged/recurrent bleeding)
• Increased or new vaginal irritation/itching/odor/discharge
• Severe stomach/abdominal pain

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Yellowing eyes/skin
• Dark urine
• Swelling of hands/ankles/feet
• Increased thirst/urination

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Delestrogen,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to estradiol valerate or inactive ingredients.

Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have:

• Vaginal bleeding of unknown cause
• Certain cancers (breast, uterus/ovaries)
• Blood clots
• Stroke
• Heart disease (heart attack)
• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Family history of cancer, blood clots, or angioedema
• Blood clotting disorders
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• High cholesterol/triglycerides
• Obesity
• Lupus
• Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
• Mineral imbalance (calcium)
• Uterus problems (fibroids, endometriosis)
• Gallbladder disease
• Asthma
• Seizures
• Migraine headaches
• Porphyria (blood disorder)
• Mental/mood disorders (dementia, depression)

Avoid smoking/tobacco use as it increases risks associated with estrogen use.

Inform your healthcare provider about any upcoming surgery or prolonged bed rest as these can increase blood clot risk. You may need to stop Delestrogen or take precautions.

Delestrogen may cause skin darkening. Limit sun exposure, avoid tanning booths/sunlamps, use sunscreen, and wear protective clothing outdoors.

Contact lens wearers may experience vision problems or difficulty wearing lenses. Consult your eye healthcare provider if these occur.

Children may be more sensitive to side effects and Delestrogen may affect their growth/development. Discuss potential effects with your healthcare provider and monitor your child's growth.

Delestrogen should not be used during pregnancy. Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Delestrogen passes into breast milk and may reduce its quality and quantity. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
