Evamist is indicated for the treatment of moderate-to-severe vasomotor symptoms due to menopause. It is a transdermal spray containing estradiol, which is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone that regulates many processes in the body.

Do’s

  • Before starting or refilling your Evamist medication, read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist. Learn how to use the spray correctly, and if you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for guidance.
  • If you are using Evamist for the first time, follow the instructions for priming the spray. Keep the spray upright when using it.
  • Spray this medication on clean, dry skin of the inside area of your forearm (between the elbow and the wrist) as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily in the morning.
  • The dosage of Evamist is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • After applying Evamist, replace the cap on the spray and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Wait at least 2 minutes for the application site to dry completely before dressing. Cover the application site with clothing (such as a long-sleeve shirt) to prevent others from touching the application area and being exposed to the drug.
  • To ensure the best effect, wait at least 1 hour before washing the application site to allow the drug to be absorbed through the skin.
  • Let the medication dry before smoking or going near an open flame.
  • Keep track of the number of sprays used. Discard the container after using the labeled number of sprays on the product package, even if there is medication left in the container.
  • If your condition does not improve or worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • If your dose is for more than 1 spray, do not use more than 1 spray on the same area of the skin. The application sites should be next to each other but not overlapping.
  • Avoid applying this medication to broken, irritated skin and to refrain from applying it to other areas of the body, including the breast, face, or in or around the vagina.
  • Do not increase your dose or use this medication more often than prescribed.
  • Do not rub the medication into the skin.
  • Avoid getting this medication in the eyes, and if it does get in the eyes, rinse them right away with warm water.

These are not all the possible side effects of Evamist, and individuals should refer to the Patient Information section of the full Prescribing Information or consult their healthcare provider for more comprehensive details.

Inform your healthcare provider if you have had or will be having surgery, or if you will be confined to a chair or bed for a long time, as these conditions increase the risk of getting blood clots, especially when using an estrogen product. Special precautions or temporary cessation of medication may be necessary in such situations.

In some cases, hysterectomized women with a history of endometriosis may need a progestogen. Use estrogen alone, or in combination with a progestogen, at the lowest effective dose and for the shortest duration consistent with treatment goals and risks for the individual woman.

Strict adherence to precautions is advised to minimize the potential for secondary exposure to estradiol from Evamist-treated skin. This includes covering the application site with clothing if another person may come into contact with that area of skin after the spray dries.

Ensure that children do not come into contact with the site(s) where Evamist is applied, as topical estradiol is absorbed through the skin and can cause adverse effects.

These are not all the possible warnings and precautions for Evamist, and individuals should refer to the Patient Information section of the full Prescribing Information or consult their healthcare provider or pharmacist for more comprehensive details.
