Cefzil, also known as cefprozil, is effective against a wide range of bacterial infections. It belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Cefzil is only effective against bacterial infections and will not work for viral infections such as the common cold or flu. Overuse or unnecessary use of antibiotics like Cefzil can lead to decreased effectiveness and antibiotic resistance
Do’s
- Take Cefzil exactly as prescribed, typically once or twice daily.
- Take Cefzil with food if you experience stomach upset.
- Take Cefzil at consistent intervals throughout the day for optimal results.
- Try to take Cefzil at the same time(s) every day.
- Finish the entire prescribed amount of Cefzil, even if symptoms improve earlier, to prevent the infection from returning.
The dosage is determined by your specific medical condition, response to treatment, and weight (for children).

- Stomach upset
- Headache
Serious Side Effects:
- Severe stomach or abdominal pain
- Persistent nausea/vomiting
- Dark urine
- Yellowing eyes/skin (jaundice)

Cefzil may interfere with the effectiveness of live bacterial vaccines. Inform your healthcare provider about taking Cefzil before receiving any vaccinations.
Disclose all medications you take, including Cefzil, to your healthcare provider or dentist before undergoing any surgery.
Older adults may experience increased side effects from Cefzil.
Children have a higher risk of developing rashes while taking Cefzil.
Use Cefzil during pregnancy only if absolutely necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.
Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while taking Cefzil, as it passes into breast milk.
