Casodex (Bicalutamide)

Do's

• Casodex is available in tablet form and is typically taken once a day. Take Casodex at around the same time each day, either in the morning or in the evening.
• Take Casodex by mouth with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider.
• Continue taking Casodex as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not stop taking it without consulting your healthcare provider.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
• Since Casodex can be absorbed through the skin and may harm an unborn baby, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle this medication or breathe the dust from the tablets.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Fatigue
• Hot flashes
• Breast swelling or tenderness
• Decreased libido (sex drive)
• Erectile dysfunction
• Back pain
• Joint pain
• Headache

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing)
• Yellowing of the eyes/skin (jaundice)
• Dark urine
• Persistent nausea/vomiting
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain
• Unusual tiredness

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Casodex,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Allergies: Inform your doctor about any allergies you have, including allergies to Casodex itself or its ingredients.

Medical conditions: Discuss your medical history with your doctor, especially if you have liver disease, diabetes, or heart disease.

Dizziness and drowsiness: Casodex may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you feel safe doing so. Alcohol and marijuana can worsen these effects, so limit their consumption while taking this medication.

Sun sensitivity: Casodex can increase sun sensitivity. Limit sun exposure, avoid tanning booths and sunlamps, wear protective clothing, and use sunscreen outdoors. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience sunburn, skin blisters, or redness.

Surgery: Inform your doctor or dentist about all medications you take, including Casodex, before any surgery.

Casodex is not intended for women, especially those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Men taking Casodex and their female partners must use reliable birth control during and for 130 days after treatment due to the potential for sperm damage.
