Do’s

Before starting Orilissa, carefully read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification.

To ensure that you are not pregnant, your healthcare provider may conduct a pregnancy test before you begin taking this medication. Alternatively, they may instruct you to start taking it within 7 days after the start of your menstrual period. Follow their directions precisely regarding when to start taking Orilissa.

Orilissa is typically taken by mouth, with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. The dosage and length of treatment are determined based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and any other drugs you may be taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the products you use, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.

To reduce the risk of bone loss, Orilissa is generally taken for up to 6 months or up to 24 months. Consult your healthcare provider for specific details regarding the duration of treatment.

For maximum benefit, use this medication regularly. To help you remember, take it at the same time(s) each day.

If your condition does not improve or worsens, inform your healthcare provider promptly.

Common Side Effects:

• Hot flush or night sweats
• Headache
• Nausea
• Insomnia
• Altered mood
• Mood swings
• Missed menstrual periods
• Depressed mood
• Anxiety
• Joint pain

Serious Side Effects:

• Mood or behavior changes, anxiety, depression, or thoughts about suicide
• Liver problems - symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain (upper right side), tiredness, easy bruising, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
• Allergic reaction - signs may include hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects, and others may occur. If you experience any unusual symptoms or side effects while taking Orilissa, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice. 

Orilissa should not be used if you are pregnant, as it may cause miscarriage. Discuss effective birth control methods with your healthcare provider while taking Orilissa, as hormonal birth control methods could make Orilissa less effective. Using a condom or diaphragm with spermicide is recommended while taking this medication and for at least 1 week after the last dose.

Orilissa can lower estrogen levels, which may lead to bone loss (osteoporosis). Talk to your healthcare provider about ways to maintain healthy bones during and after treatment with this medication. The duration of Orilissa use should be limited due to the risk of bone loss.

Orilissa may cause suicidal thoughts or actions. Seek medical help right away if you experience new or worsening symptoms of depression, anxiety, or unusual changes in behavior or mood.
