Vivelle DOT (Estradiol Hemihydrate)

Do’s

• Before starting to use Vivelle-Dot, read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist. This will help in understanding the proper usage and potential considerations related to the medication.
• Peel off the backing from the patch and apply it to a clean, dry area of the body as directed. Ensure that the patch is applied to the specific areas of the body as instructed. 
• If there are any uncertainties about where to apply the patch, consult your healthcare provider.
• The patch is usually replaced twice a week, following a schedule of every 3 to 4 days. When replacing the patch, apply the new patch to a different area, waiting at least 1 week before reapplying a patch to the same area. 
• Properly dispose of the old patch by folding it in half with the sticky side together and throwing it away in the trash away from children and pets.
• If a patch falls off, it should be reapplied to a different area. If the patch does not stick completely, a new patch should be applied and worn for the rest of the scheduled period.
• Use Vivelle-Dot regularly to obtain the maximum benefit from it. To help remember, change the patch on the same days each week. It may be helpful to mark a calendar as a reminder.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve or worsens during the course of treatment with Vivelle-Dot.

Don’ts

• Do not apply the patch on the breast or on oily, broken, or irritated skin. 
• Do not flush the used patch down the toilet.
• Do not wear 2 patches at the same time.

Common Side Effects: 

• Headache
• Breast tenderness

Serious Side Effects:

• Chest/jaw/left arm pain
• Unusual sweating
• Sudden/severe headache
• Weakness

The above-listed serious side effects require immediate medical attention if experienced.

Consult a healthcare provider if any side effects continue or are bothersome.

Some individuals may experience allergic reactions to Vivelle Dot. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If any of these symptoms occur, seek immediate medical attention.

Estrogen products, including Vivelle Dot, may increase the risk of blood clots and stroke. Discuss the potential risks with a healthcare provider, especially for individuals with a history of blood clots, stroke, or certain heart conditions.

There is evidence to suggest that the use of estrogen-only hormone replacement therapy, such as Vivelle Dot, may increase the risk of developing breast cancer. Discuss the potential risks and benefits of using Vivelle Dot with a healthcare provider.

Inform your healthcare provider about any medical conditions, current medications, and family medical history before using Vivelle Dot. Additionally, regular medical check-ups and mammograms may be recommended while using this medication.
