Premarin Vaginal Cream (Conjugated Estrogen)

Do’s

• If available from your pharmacist, read the patient information leaflet of Premarin Vaginal Cream before starting to use it and each time you get a refill. For any questions, consult your healthcare provider.
• Follow your healthcare provider's directions for using this medication. Fill the applicator with the cream according to the provided directions. Insert the applicator high into the vagina and press the plunger to release the cream. After each use, clean the applicator with warm soapy water and rinse well. 
• The appropriate dosage of Premarin Vaginal Cream is determined based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your healthcare provider will provide specific guidance on the correct dosage for you.
• Use this medication regularly to derive the most benefit from it. Adhere to your dosing schedule carefully.
• If your condition does not improve or worsens while using this medication, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts 

• Avoid boiling or using hot water to clean the applicator.
• Avoid increasing your dose or using this medication more often or for a longer time than directed by your healthcare provider. Compliance with the prescribed dosage and usage instructions is crucial.

Common Side Effects:

• Headache
• Pelvic pain
• Flushing
• Breast pain
• Vaginal itching or discharge
• Changes in menstrual periods
• Breakthrough bleeding 

Other Possible Side Effects: 

• Stomach/abdominal cramps
• Bloating
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Hair loss
• Fluid retention
• Vaginal yeast infection
• Vaginal burning, irritation, and itching

Serious, but less Common Side Effects:

• Heart attack
• Stroke
• Blood clots
• Dementia
• Breast cancer
• Cancer of the lining of the uterus
• Cancer of the ovary
• High blood pressure
• High blood sugar
• Gallbladder disease
• Liver problems
• Severe allergic reactions 

These are not all the possible side effects, and others may occur. Contact your healthcare provider for medical advice if you experience any unusual symptoms or side effects. 

Systemic absorption occurs with the use of Premarin Vaginal Cream. The warnings, precautions, and adverse reactions associated with oral Premarin treatment should be taken into account.

There is an increased risk of stroke and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) with estrogen-alone therapy. An increased risk of pulmonary embolism (PE), DVT, stroke, and myocardial infarction (MI) has been reported with estrogen plus progestin therapy. If any of these occur or are suspected, the use of Premarin Vaginal Cream should be discontinued immediately. Risk factors for arterial vascular disease and/or venous thromboembolism should be managed appropriately.

Premarin Vaginal Cream exposure has been reported to weaken latex

Inform your healthcare provider if you have had or will be having surgery, or if you will be confined to a chair or bed for a long time, as these conditions may increase the risk of getting blood clots, especially when using an estrogen product like Premarin Vaginal Cream. Special precautions or temporary discontinuation of the medication may be necessary in such situations.
