Kenalog Cream (Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream)

Do’s

• Use this medication exclusively on the skin.
• Before application, ensure your hands are clean and dry. 
• Clean and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of the medication, gently rubbing it in as directed by your healthcare providerr, typically 2 to 4 times daily. 
• Following application, wash your hands unless you are using the medication to treat your hands. 
• Use this medication only for the prescribed condition.
• If your condition persists or worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Avoid using this medication on the face, groin, or underarms unless instructed by your healthcare provider.
• Refrain from covering, bandaging, or wrapping the treated area unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider.
• When applying the medication near the eyes, take care to prevent it from entering the eyes, as this may exacerbate or cause glaucoma. Additionally, avoid contact with the nose or mouth. If the medication comes into contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse with plenty of water.
• Avoid using this medication for longer than directed. 

Common Side Effects:

• Skin irritation, including burning, itching, and dryness
• Changes in skin appearance, such as pimples, stretch marks, and thinning of the skin
• Slow healing of wounds
• Increased hair growth
• Changes in skin color

Less Common but Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions, such as hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Worsening of the skin condition being treated
• Redness, warmth, swelling, oozing, or severe irritation of the treated skin
• Blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights
• High blood sugar symptoms, including increased thirst, increased urination, dry mouth, and fruity breath odor

Children can absorb larger amounts of this medicine through the skin and may be more likely to experience side effects such as growth delay, headaches, or pain behind the eyes. A baby using this medicine may have a bulging soft spot on the head where the skull hasn't yet grown together.

Kenalog Cream is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its components.

Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids, like Kenalog Cream, has the potential to produce reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, manifestations of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria in some patients.

Conditions that may augment systemic absorption include the application of more potent steroids, use over large surface areas, prolonged use, and the addition of occlusive dressings.

Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should inform their healthcare provider before using Kenalog Cream. If applied to the chest, areas that may come into contact with a nursing baby's mouth should be avoided.

Avoid using other topical steroid medications on the areas treated with Kenalog Cream unless directed by a healthcare provider.
