Elocon Ointment (Mometasone Furoate)

Do’s

• If available from your pharmacist, read the Patient Information Leaflet of Elocon Ointment before initiating treatment and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification.
• Use this medication only on certain areas of the skin. 
• Wash and dry your hands before using the ointment. Clean and dry the affected area before application.
• Apply the ointment as directed by your healthcare provider, usually a thin film to the affected area once daily. Gently rub it in.
• Wash your hands with soap and water after each use unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. 
• Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.
• If your condition does not improve after 2 weeks of treatment or if it worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Do not use Elocon Ointment on the face, groin, or underarms, or for diaper rash, unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• Do not cover the treated area with bandages or other dressings unless instructed to do so by your healthcare provider.
• Do not wash or rinse the medication off immediately after applying it. 
• Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this occurs, rinse thoroughly with water and contact your healthcare provider if the irritation lasts
• Do not apply large amounts of this medication, use it more often, or use it for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects may increase.

• Red or pus-filled bumps on the skin
• Acne
• Mild itching, tingling, or burning

This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur. If you experience any adverse effects, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice. 

Do not use Elocon Ointment in larger amounts or for longer than recommended, as topical steroid medicine can be absorbed through the skin, which may cause steroid side effects throughout the body.

Mometasone, the active ingredient in Elocon Ointment, can affect growth in children and should not be used long-term. The safety and efficacy of Elocon Ointment in pediatric patients for more than 3 weeks of use have not been established.

Elocon Ointment is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components in the preparation.

Elocon Ointment may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Consult with a healthcare provider to weigh the benefits and potential risks before use.

Limited human data suggests that Elocon Ointment does not represent any significant risk to the baby during breastfeeding.
