Bactroban Ointment (Mupirocin)

Do’s

• Read the patient information leaflet before starting to use Bactroban Ointment and each time you get a refill. 
• Ask your healthcare provider for clarification if you have any questions about the medication. 
• Use Bactroban Ointment only on the skin. 
• Clean and dry the affected area before applying the ointment. 
• Follow the directions provided by your healthcare provider for application. 
• Apply Bactroban Ointment three times a day as directed. 
• Cover the treated area with a bandage after applying the ointment if advised to do so. 
• Use the medication regularly to obtain the most benefit from it. 
• Continue using it for the full prescribed time even if symptoms disappear as stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection. 
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition does not improve within 3 to 5 days. 
• Rinse well with plenty of water if accidental contact occurs with the medication. 

Don’ts

• Don't use Bactroban Ointment around your eyes, nose, mouth, or on large areas of damaged or broken skin unless directed by your healthcare provider. 

Common Side Effects:

• Burning
• Stinging
• Itching
• Pain

Uncommon Side Effects: 

• Unusual blistering
• Itching, redness, peeling, dryness, or irritation of the skin

If you notice any of these symptoms, inform your healthcare provider, as a small amount of Bactroban Ointment may be absorbed into the bloodstream.

Bactroban Ointment is not for intranasal, ophthalmic, or other mucosal use.

Before using Bactroban Ointment, inform your healthcare providers about any signs of a new skin infection. In addition, tell them about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems

For individuals with moderate or severe renal impairment, caution should be exercised when using Bactroban Ointment, especially if there is evidence of moderate or severe renal impairment. Consult with a healthcare provider for personalized guidance.
