Adalat XL is used to prevent chest pain (angina) and may help improve exercise tolerance and reduce the frequency of angina attacks.

Nifedipine, the active ingredient in Adalat XL, belongs to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily.

Adalat XL must be taken on a regular basis to be effective in preventing angina attacks. It should not be used to treat acute attacks of chest pain when they occur.

For the relief of chest pain attacks, other medications like sublingual nitroglycerin should be used as directed by your healthcare provider.

Do’s

  • Take Adalat capsules exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically 3 times daily with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole. Don't crush, chew, or break it.
  • Take Adalat capsules regularly, at the same times each day, to maintain consistent levels of the medication in your body and achieve optimal results.
  • Your healthcare provider may adjust your dosage based on your response to treatment. Follow their instructions carefully.

Don'ts

  • Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Adalat capsules unless your healthcare provider says it's safe. Grapefruit can increase side effects.
  • Don't stop taking Adalat capsules abruptly without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Don't crush, chew, or break the capsules. Swallow them whole.
  • Don't miss a dose. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Don't double your dose to catch up.
