Bactroban Cream (Mupirocin)

Do’s

• Use Bactroban Cream only on your skin as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before applying the cream.
• Apply a small amount of cream to the affected area, usually 3 times a day, following your healthcare provider's instructions.
• You can cover the treated area with a bandage if directed by your healthcare provider.
• Use Bactroban Cream regularly for the full prescribed duration, even if your symptoms improve.
• If the cream accidentally gets in your eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse thoroughly with water.

Don'ts

• Don't use Bactroban Cream on your eyes, nose, or mouth unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
• Don't apply Bactroban Cream to large areas of skin without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't stop using Bactroban Cream early, even if your symptoms seem to disappear.
• Don't use Bactroban Cream with other topical medications in the same area without consulting your healthcare provider.

Common side effects of Bactroban Cream may include:

• Burning
• Stinging
• Itching
• Pain
• Rash
• Nausea
• Headache

Serious side effects of Bactroban Cream are rare but may include:

• Severe irritation or itching: Stop using Bactroban Cream and call your healthcare provider if you develop severe irritation, itching, or a rash while using the cream.
• Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD): CDAD may occur in people who use or have used medicine to treat bacterial infections. If you experience diarrhea while using or after stopping Bactroban Cream, seek medical attention.
• Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Before using Bactroban Cream (mupirocin), inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to mupirocin or other medications.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Bactroban Cream) before undergoing surgery.

Bactroban Cream should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits clearly outweigh the risks. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using it if you are pregnant.

It is unknown if Bactroban Cream passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding to determine if it's safe.
