Evista (Raloxifene) is specifically meant for postmenopausal women to prevent and treat bone loss (osteoporosis). Raloxifene works by slowing down bone loss and strengthening bones, reducing the risk of fractures. In some cases, it may also decrease the chance of developing a specific type of breast cancer (invasive) after menopause. It's not an estrogen hormone, but it mimics estrogen's effects in bones while blocking its action in other areas like the uterus and breasts. Evista does not alleviate menopause symptoms like hot flashes. Crucially, it should not be used before menopause or for heart disease prevention.
Do's
- Take Evista at the same time every day for maximum effectiveness.
- Swallow the whole tablet.
- Ensure you're getting sufficient calcium and vitamin D for optimal bone health.

Don'ts
- Do not crush or chew it to avoid its bitter taste.
Common side effects may include:
- Hot flashes

- Signs of a blood clot, such as sudden pain, swelling, redness, or warmth in the leg or arm; chest pain; trouble breathing; coughing up blood; or sudden vision changes like blurred vision or loss of vision
- Signs of a stroke, such as weakness on one side of the body, trouble speaking, sudden vision changes, or confusion
- Swelling, tenderness, or other changes in the breasts
- Allergic reaction, including rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing

- Heart disease, heart attack, or irregular heartbeat
- High blood pressure, cholesterol, or triglycerides
- Smoking
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Cancer
- Heart failure
Discuss upcoming surgery or prolonged bed rest with your healthcare provider. These situations increase the risk of blood clots while taking raloxifene.
This medication is contraindicated in pregnancy. It can harm the unborn baby. Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy.
Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking raloxifene. Consult your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits.
