Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan) is indicated for the following:

  • Adults with Long-Lasting (Chronic) Heart Failure: Entresto is used to help reduce the risk of death and hospitalization in adults with chronic heart failure, particularly when the heart cannot pump a normal amount of blood to the body.

Certain Children 1 Year of Age and Older with Symptomatic Heart Failure: Entresto is also indicated for certain children 1 year of age and older who have symptomatic heart failure. However, it is not known if Entresto is safe and effective in children under 1 year of age.

Do's

  • The dosage of Entresto is based on the patient's medical condition and response to treatment. For adults with chronic heart failure, the typical starting dose is usually 49/51 mg (sacubitril/valsartan) twice daily. The dose may be increased to the target maintenance dose of 97/103 mg (sacubitril/valsartan) twice daily, as tolerated by the patient. The dosage may also be adjusted based on individual patient characteristics and concomitant medications.
  • Entresto is taken by mouth with or without food, as directed by the healthcare provider. If a patient is using the suspension form of this medication, shake the bottle well before each dose and carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon. Do not use a household spoon to ensure the correct dose is administered.
  • To reduce the risk of side effects, the healthcare provider may direct the patient to start with a low dose and gradually increase it. Follow their instructions carefully regarding dosage adjustments.
  • Entresto should not be taken with ACE inhibitors (such as captopril, enalapril), as it may increase the risk of serious side effects. Patients are advised not to take Entresto for at least 36 hours before or after taking an ACE inhibitor.
  • Take Entresto regularly to derive the most benefit from it. Patients are encouraged to take it at the same times each day to help remember the doses.
  • For specific dosing instructions and individualized recommendations, consult your healthcare provider.

  • Signs of kidney problems, such as changes in the amount of urine.
  • Symptoms of a high potassium blood level, such as muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat, or fainting.
  • Hemoglobin/hematocrit decreased greater than 20%.
  • Falls.
  • Hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reaction (postmarketing reports).

Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. However, inform your healthcare provider right away if any serious side effects are experienced.

To reduce the risk of side effects, your healthcare provider may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase the dose. Follow their instructions carefully in this regard.

Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your healthcare provider has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. If any symptoms are ongoing or bothersome, talk with your healthcare provider, and do not stop taking Entresto unless recommended.

Talk to your healthcare provider right away about the risks and benefits of this medication if you become pregnant. It is unknown if this product passes into breast milk, so consulting your healthcare provider before breastfeeding is essential.

Entresto can cause harm or death to an unborn baby. Discuss other ways to treat heart failure if planning to become pregnant. If pregnancy occurs during treatment with Entresto, inform your healthcare provider immediately.

Do not use Entresto if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or have had an allergic reaction, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat (angioedema), or trouble breathing while taking a type of medicine called an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.

If symptoms of a kidney condition develop, undergoing blood tests to determine whether the kidneys were affected by Entresto is recommended. In some cases, your healthcare provider may recommend a lower dose of Entresto or may recommend pausing or stopping treatment with Entresto if kidney problems develop.

Entresto may interact with other drugs. Enter your medication into an interaction checker and consult a healthcare provider before taking any drug, changing any diet, or commencing or discontinuing any course of treatment.

This is not an exhaustive list of warnings and precautions for Entresto. For comprehensive information and personalized guidance, consult the prescribing information and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.
