YAZ Birth Control 24 day (Drospirenone/Ethinyl Estradiol)

Do’s

• Read the Patient Information Leaflet carefully before you start taking Yaz and each time you get a refill.
• Take your pill at the same time each day, 24 hours apart. This will help regulate your hormones and make the pill more effective.
• Take your pill with or without food. Taking it with food may reduce nausea.
• Follow the arrows on the pack to take your pills in the correct order.
• Take all 24 active pills in the pack. Don't skip any doses.
• Take a "reminder" pill (inactive) for the last 4 days of the pack, even if you don't have your period yet.
• Start your next pack the day after you finish the last pill, regardless of whether you have your period.
• Use a backup birth control method (like condoms) during the first 7 days of your first cycle and if you miss pills in subsequent cycles.
• Consult your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns.

Don'ts

• Don't skip or miss pills. This can increase your risk of pregnancy.
• Don't take more pills than prescribed.
• Don't take Yaz if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
• Don't start Yaz without talking to your healthcare provider first, especially if you have a history of certain medical conditions.
• Don't expect your period every cycle. With Yaz, periods may become lighter or even disappear completely.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Headache
• Breast tenderness
• Irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting
• Mood changes
• Weight changes
• Decreased libido
• Vaginal discharge or discomfort

Serious Side Effects:

• Blood clots
• Heart attack
• Stroke.
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes
• Dark urine
• Abdominal pain
• Persistent nausea.
• Signs of an allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Yaz birth control 24 days, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to Yaz's ingredients (ethinyl estradiol, drospirenone) or other estrogens/progestins.

Share your medical background with your healthcare provider, especially regarding:

• Adrenal gland problems
• Stroke or blood clots
• High blood pressure
• Abnormal breast exam or cancer history (breast/endometrial)
• Blood clotting disorders
• Diabetes
• Severe headaches/migraines
• Angina (swelling disorder)
• Heart problems (valve disease, irregular heartbeat, prior heart attack)
• Kidney or liver problems
• History of jaundice during pregnancy or with birth control pills
• Unexplained vaginal bleeding
• High cholesterol/triglycerides
• Depression
• Swelling (edema)
• Gallbladder issues
• Obesity

Yaz may affect blood sugar. Monitor your blood sugar regularly and report changes to your healthcare provider.

Inform your healthcare provider about upcoming major surgery or prolonged restricted mobility (bed rest/long flights). These situations increase blood clot risk with hormonal birth control. You might need to temporarily stop Yaz or take additional precautions.

Before any surgery or dental work, inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take (prescription, non-prescription, and herbal).

Yaz may raise potassium levels. Consult your healthcare provider before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium.

Yaz may cause skin darkening (melasma). Limit sun exposure, wear sunscreen and protective clothing.

You might experience vision problems or contact lens difficulties. Consult your eye healthcare provider if this occurs.

It may take longer to get pregnant after stopping Yaz. Discuss this with your healthcare provider.

Do not use Yaz if pregnant. Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you become pregnant or suspect pregnancy.

Talk to your healthcare provider about safe birth control options after childbirth or pregnancy loss (after the first 3 months).

Yaz passes into breast milk and may harm your baby. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
