Loxapac (Loxapine Succinate)

Do’s

• Loxapac is usually taken by mouth 2 to 4 times daily. The specific dosage will be determined by your healthcare provider based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• If you are using the liquid form of Loxapac, carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/dropper. The liquid should be mixed in liquid or soft food (such as applesauce or pudding) just before taking. 
• To reduce the risk of side effects, such as drowsiness and shaking, your healthcare provider may direct you to start Loxapac at a low dose and gradually increase the dose. Follow their directions carefully.
• Loxapac should be taken regularly to get the most benefit from it. Take it at the same time(s) each day to help you remember. 
• Although you may notice some improvement in your symptoms soon after starting the medication, it may take several weeks to months to get the full benefit of the drug. If your condition does not improve or if it worsens, consult your healthcare provider. 

Don’ts

• Do not use a household spoon when measuring the liquid form as it may not provide the correct dose.
• Do not stop taking Loxapac without consulting your healthcare provider. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. Your healthcare provider may reduce your dose gradually to prevent withdrawal symptoms. If you experience any new or worsening symptoms, report them to your healthcare provider right away.

Common Side Effects:

• Drowsiness
• Dry mouth
• Constipation
• Blurred vision
• Dizziness
• Weight gain
• Tremors

If you develop symptoms such as an increase in body temperature, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness, Loxapac should be discontinued immediately. These symptoms may indicate a condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

Loxapac may cause involuntary movements of the tongue, lips, and face. If you experience such symptoms, report them to your healthcare provider immediately. Gradual dose reduction or discontinuation of the medication may be required based on your clinical condition.

Loxapac should be used with caution in patients with a known history of seizure disorder, as it may increase the risk of recurrent seizures. Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider.

Loxapac may have potential risks during pregnancy. Discuss the benefits and risks with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. 

Limited data is available regarding the use of Loxapac in patients with kidney or liver disease. Consult your healthcare provider for appropriate guidance.
