Proamatine (Midodrine)

Do’s

• Take Proamatine exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically 3 times a day with at least 3-4 hours between doses.
• Follow all your healthcare provider's instructions carefully, especially regarding timing and potential restrictions.
• Take Proamatine with or without food.
• Take Proamatine during the daytime, at least 4 hours before bedtime, to avoid supine hypertension (high blood pressure when lying down).
• Avoid taking Proamatine if you plan to lie down for a long time shortly after.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition improves with treatment.

Don'ts

• Don't take more Proamatine than prescribed or take it more often than 3 times a day.
• Don't take Proamatine after the evening meal or less than 4 hours before bedtime.
• Don't increase your dose without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't continue taking Proamatine if your condition doesn't improve.

Common side effects:

• Chills, goosebumps
• Numbness, tingling, or itching (especially in the scalp)
• Headache, dizziness, tired feeling
• Nausea
• Increased urination, painful or difficult urination, or sudden urge to urinate

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Slow heartbeat
• Unusual feeling in the chest
• Fainting
• Pressure/fullness in the head
• Confusion
• Anxiety
• Weakness
• Vision problems
• Marked elevation of supine arterial blood pressure (supine hypertension), especially when lying down
• Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Proamatine,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies you have, including allergies to medications and their inactive ingredients.

Tell your healthcare provider about any pre-existing health conditions, especially:

• High blood pressure
• Pheochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumor)
• Overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism)
• Urinary problems
• Heart disease
• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Diabetes

Proamatine significantly raises your blood pressure when you're lying down. This is why it's only prescribed in specific cases.

Your healthcare provider will closely monitor your blood pressure throughout treatment.

Be cautious when standing up from sitting or lying down, as Proamatine might cause dizziness.

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal products, to avoid potential interactions.

Don't change the dosage of any medications without consulting your healthcare provider first.
