Amoxil (Amoxicillin)

Do’s

• Take Amoxicillin exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, with or without food, typically every 8 or 12 hours.
• Drink plenty of fluids while taking Amoxicillin unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise.
• Take Amoxicillin at consistent times throughout the day for maximum benefit. You can set reminders or alarms to help you remember.
• Continue taking Amoxicillin for the entire prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve. Stopping it early can cause the infection to return.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition worsens or persists despite taking Amoxicillin.

Don'ts

• Don't skip doses or take more Amoxicillin than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't take Amoxicillin for a viral infection, as it only treats bacterial infections.
• Don't discontinue Amoxicillin early because you feel better. Complete the full course of treatment as instructed by your healthcare provider.

Common side effects of Amoxil may include:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Headache
• Abnormal taste sense
• Skin rash
• Vaginal yeast infection

Serious side effects of Amoxil are rare but may include:

• Hypersensitivity reactions, such as flu-like symptoms, painful red or purple rash, blisters, or skin discoloration
• Liver damage
• Serious skin reactions, including flu-like symptoms, rash, itchiness, and skin discoloration
• Seizures
• Trouble passing urine or a decrease in the quantity of urine
• Unusually weak or tired feeling

Let your healthcare provider know if you have allergies to Amoxicillin, penicillin, cephalosporin antibiotics, or any other ingredients.

Inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing conditions, especially kidney disease or infectious mononucleosis.

Amoxicillin can interfere with live bacterial vaccines and some medications. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescriptions, non-prescription, and herbal products, before using Amoxicillin.

Disclose your Amoxicillin use to your healthcare provider or dentist before any surgery.

Amoxicillin should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. It passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
