Ciprofloxacin, a quinolone antibiotic, is used to treat bacterial eye and ear infections.
It works by stopping the growth of bacteria and is specifically designed to treat only bacterial eye and ear infections, such as conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, swimmer's ear, and acute middle ear infections in children with ear tubes.
Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic, including ciprofloxacin, can lead to decreased effectiveness.
Do’s
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching the dropper or your ear/eye.
For eyes: Tilt your head back, look upward, and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch. Hold the dropper bottle upright over your eye and instill one drop into the pouch.
For ears: Lie on your side opposite the affected ear. Gently pull the outer earlobe upwards and back (for adults) or outwards (for children) to straighten the ear canal.
After applying eye drops, look downward and gently close your eyes for 1-2 minutes.
Place one finger at the corner of your eye near your nose and apply gentle pressure to prevent the medication from draining out (optional).
Try not to blink or rub your eye immediately after application (for eyes).
If your healthcare provider instructs you to treat both eyes or ears, repeat the application steps for the other side.
Replace the dropper cap tightly after each use.
If using other ear drops, wait at least 15 minutes between applying Cipro and other ear medications.
Use Cipro eye/ear drops for the entire prescribed duration, even if your symptoms improve after a few days. Stopping it early can allow the infection to return.
Tell your healthcare provider if your ear or eye infection worsens or doesn't improve after using Cipro eye/ear drops for a while.
Don'ts
