Stalevo 200 is a combination medicine used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as muscle stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control. It contains three active substances: carbidopa, entacapone, and levodopa. Stalevo is specifically used in adults who are being treated with a combination of levodopa and an inhibitor of dopa decarboxylase but are experiencing fluctuations towards the end of the period between two doses of treatment.

Do’s

  • The dosage of Stalevo 200 is determined by your healthcare provider based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Take the medication regularly to receive the maximum benefit from it.
  • Stalevo 200 should be taken by mouth with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. It is typically taken 3 to 4 times a day, with one tablet per dose. Swallow the tablet whole.
  • Taking Stalevo 200 with food can help decrease nausea. However, it is advisable to avoid a high-protein diet as it may reduce the absorption of levodopa. Additionally, taking the medication with a high-fat, high-calorie meal can delay its onset of action by about 2 hours.
  • Separate the dose of Stalevo 200 by as many hours as possible from any iron supplements or products containing iron, such as multivitamins with minerals. Iron can interfere with the absorption of this medication.
  • Some patients may experience a "wearing-off" effect before the next dose is due, where symptoms worsen. An "on-off" effect, characterized by sudden short periods of stiffness, can also occur. If these effects happen, contact your healthcare provider for possible dose adjustments that may alleviate this effect.
  • If your symptoms do not improve or worsen, notify your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.

Don’ts

  • Do not alter the prescribed dosage without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet. These actions can result in an incorrect dose and may also cause staining of the mouth, dentures, and saliva.
  • Do not stop taking Stalevo 200 without consulting your healthcare provider. Abruptly stopping the medication can worsen certain conditions and may lead to withdrawal symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, confusion, fever, and muscle stiffness. To prevent withdrawal symptoms, your healthcare provider may gradually reduce your dose if discontinuation is necessary.

If you experience any serious side effects or have concerns about your medication, contact your healthcare provider immediately for further evaluation and guidance.

Stalevo 200 may interact with other medications you are taking. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently using to avoid potential interactions.
