Comtan (entacapone) is used in combination with other medications (levodopa/carbidopa) to treat Parkinson's disease. Many people taking levodopa for Parkinson's experience problems with the effects of levodopa wearing off between scheduled doses, causing symptoms to return or worsen.

Entacapone belongs to a class of drugs known as COMT inhibitors.  It blocks the COMT enzyme, which breaks down levodopa in the body, allowing levodopa to last longer in the system and prevent it from wearing off before the next dose.
