Mucodyne Syrup (Carbocisteine)

Do’s

• Mucodyne Syrup should always be taken exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. 
• Mucodyne Syrup is taken orally and comes with a measuring beaker to ensure you take the correct dose.
• The usual dose for adults, including the elderly, is 15ml taken three times each day. If your symptoms improve, your healthcare provider may lower your dose to 10ml, taken three times each day.
• If you take more Mucodyne Syrup than prescribed, you should immediately contact a healthcare provider or go to a hospital casualty department. Make sure to take the medicine pack with you so that the healthcare provider knows what you have taken. An overdose of Mucodyne Syrup may result in an upset stomach or other gastrointestinal disturbances.
• If you forget a dose, simply wait until the next dose is due. 

Don’ts

• Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
• Do not change the dose yourself if you feel the medicine is too weak or too strong, always consult your healthcare provider.   

• Allergic reactions
• Difficulty in breathing
• Skin rash
• Gastrointestinal bleeding

Do not take Mucodyne Syrup if you are allergic to carbocisteine or any of the other ingredients in the syrup. Signs of an allergic reaction may include a rash, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the lips, face, throat, or tongue. If you are unsure about any allergies, consult with your healthcare provider before taking the syrup.

If you have an ulcer in your stomach or gut (small intestine), avoid taking Mucodyne Syrup. Consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns regarding ulcers and the use of this syrup.

Mucodyne Syrup should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Limited studies in humans have shown potential harmful effects on the developing baby. Consult with your healthcare provider before using Mucodyne Syrup if you are pregnant.

Mucodyne Syrup is not recommended for children who are 12 years old or younger.
