Relpax (Eletriptan) is specifically indicated for the treatment of migraines. It is effective in relieving headaches, pain, and other symptoms associated with migraines, such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.

Prompt treatment with Eletriptan can assist individuals in returning to their normal routines and potentially reduce the need for other pain medications.

Eletriptan is categorized as a member of the drug class known as triptans. These medications exert their effects by targeting a specific natural substance, serotonin, which is responsible for the narrowing of blood vessels in the brain. Additionally, Eletriptan may alleviate pain by affecting certain nerves in the brain.

Eletriptan is effective in treating acute migraines, but it does not have the capability to prevent future migraines or reduce the frequency of migraine attacks.

Do’s

  • Take Relpax exactly as directed by your healthcare provider, typically at the first sign of a migraine, with or without food.
  • If your migraine symptoms improve only partially or return after two hours, you may take a second dose.
  • For the US product, the maximum daily dosage is 80 milligrams within 24 hours. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions for the Canadian product, which may have a lower maximum dosage.
  • Discuss any risk factors for heart problems with your healthcare provider before starting Relpax.
  • If your healthcare provider recommends an initial dose in a monitored setting, follow their guidance.

Don'ts

  • Don't take more than the prescribed dose of Relpax within 24 hours.
  • Don't take Relpax more often than 10 days per month to avoid medication overuse headaches.
  • Don't take Relpax if you have a history of certain serious heart conditions or uncontrolled high blood pressure. (Discuss this with your healthcare provider.)
  • Don't take Relpax if you are allergic to eletriptan or any ingredients in the medication.
  • Don't take Relpax if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless explicitly approved by your healthcare provider.
