Naprosyn (Naproxen)

Do’s

• The dosage of Naprosyn is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time to reduce the risk of stomach bleeding and other side effects.
• Typically, Naprosyn is taken 2 or 3 times a day as directed by your healthcare provider. Take Naprosyn by mouth with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters).
• If using the liquid form of Naprosyn, shake the bottle well before each dose and carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon.
• To prevent stomach upset, take Naprosyn with food, milk, or an antacid.
• For certain conditions, such as arthritis, it may take up to two weeks of regular use of Naprosyn before the full benefit is experienced.
• If you are taking this drug "as needed," use it at the first signs of pain for the best results. Waiting until the pain has worsened may reduce the effectiveness of the medication.
• If your condition lasts or worsens, or if you suspect a serious medical problem, seek medical help immediately.
• The dosage needs may change if you switch between different brands, strengths, or forms of naproxen, and any changes in weight may affect the dose for children. Always consult your healthcare provider for any questions or concerns regarding the use of Naprosyn.

Don’ts

• Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication to prevent stomach upset.
• A household spoon should not be used to measure the liquid form of this medication, as it may not provide the correct dose.

Common Side Effects:

• Indigestion, heartburn, stomach pain, nausea
• Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
• Bruising, itching, rash
• Swelling
• Ringing in your ears

Severe Side Effects:

• Kidney problems: little or no urinating, painful or difficult urination, swelling in your feet or ankles, feeling tired or short of breath
• Low red blood cells (anemia): fatigue, pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating
• Severe skin reaction: fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling

Individuals with a history of allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs should not use Naprosyn.

Naprosyn should be stored at room temperature, and pharmacists should dispense it in a well-closed container.
