Anaprox (Naproxen Sodium)

Do’s

• Before taking over-the-counter Anaprox, read and follow all directions on the package label. If prescribed by a healthcare provider, read the Medication Guide provided by your healthcare provider. Ask your healthcare provider if anything is unclear.
• Take Anaprox by mouth, usually 2 or 3 times a day, with a full glass of water. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions or the package label for dosing and frequency. Don't lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking it.
• To reduce stomach upset, take Anaprox with food, milk, or an antacid.
• To minimize side effects, take the lowest dose of Anaprox which effectively relieves your pain for the shortest possible duration.
• If you have a chronic condition like arthritis, take Anaprox as directed by your healthcare provider for long-term management.
• For some conditions like arthritis, it may take up to two weeks of regular use to experience the full pain-relieving benefits of Anaprox.
• Take for early pain relief (if using "as needed"). For pain relief using the non-prescription version, take Anaprox at the first signs of pain. It may be less effective if you wait until the pain worsens.
• If your condition worsens, you suspect a serious medical problem, or a fever treated with Anaprox doesn't improve or lasts more than 3 days, consult a healthcare provider right away.
• Take Anaprox at consistent times each day to maximize its effectiveness. Setting reminders can be helpful.

Don't

• Don't skip doses or take more than prescribed: Don't take more Anaprox than recommended or take it more often than directed.
• Don't stop taking it suddenly without consulting your healthcare provider (for ongoing conditions).

Common side effects of Anaprox may include:

• Upset stomach
• Nausea
• Heartburn
• Headache
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness

Serious side effects of Anaprox are rare but may include:

• Allergic reactions, such as swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, difficulty breathing, or hives
• Severe stomach pain
• Black, tarry stools or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, which may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes, which may indicate liver problems
• Chest pain or tightness, fast or irregular heartbeat, weakness, or slurred speech, which may indicate serious heart problems
• Signs of kidney problems, such as decreased urination or unusual swelling
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Skin rash

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Anaprox,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider about any allergies to Naproxen, Aspirin, other NSAIDs, or any ingredients in the medication.

Inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing conditions, especially:

• Asthma (especially aspirin-sensitive asthma)
• Blood disorders (anemia)
• Bleeding/clotting problems
• Nasal polyps
• Heart disease (history of heart attack)
• High blood pressure
• Liver disease
• Stroke
• Swelling (edema)
• Stomach/intestinal/esophagus problems (bleeding, heartburn, ulcers)

Naproxen use can increase the risk of kidney problems, especially for dehydrated individuals, those with heart failure/kidney disease, older adults, or on certain medications. Drink plenty of fluids and report any changes in urine output to your healthcare provider.

Anaprox may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you know how it affects you. Limit alcohol and marijuana use, which can worsen these effects.

This medication may cause stomach bleeding. The risk is increased with daily alcohol and tobacco use. Limit alcohol and quit smoking. Discuss safe alcohol consumption with your healthcare provider.

Anaprox can increase sun sensitivity. Limit sun exposure, avoid tanning booths/lamps, use sunscreen, and wear protective clothing outdoors. Report sunburn, blisters, or skin redness to your healthcare provider.

Some Anaprox products contain salt (sodium). Tell your healthcare provider if you are on a salt-restricted diet.

Before surgery, tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Anaprox.

Older adults may be at higher risk for stomach bleeding, kidney problems, heart attack, and stroke while using Anaprox.

Discuss the risks and benefits of Anaprox use with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Anaprox may harm an unborn baby and cause delivery complications. It is not recommended after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Anaprox passes into breast milk and may affect the nursing infant. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
