Sanctura (Trospium) is prescribed to treat overactive bladder, a condition characterized by symptoms such as leaking of urine, urgent need to urinate, and frequent bathroom visits. Trospium achieves this by relaxing the muscles in the bladder, thereby improving the individual's ability to control urination.
By reducing urine leakage, urgent urination, and frequent bathroom visits, Sanctura aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals affected by overactive bladder.
Trospium belongs to the class of drugs known as antispasmodics and is also referred to as an antimuscarinic. Its mechanism of action involves targeting muscarinic receptors, thereby exerting an antispasmodic effect on the bladder muscles.

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:
This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Sanctura, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.
Inform your healthcare provider of any allergies you have before taking Sanctura. This includes allergies to trospium itself or any other ingredients in the medication.
Tell your healthcare provider about your medical history, particularly if you have glaucoma, kidney disease, liver disease, stomach/intestinal problems, myasthenia gravis, or inability to urinate. These conditions can affect how Sanctura works or worsen side effects.
Sanctura may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving or activities requiring alertness or clear vision until you know how it affects you. Limit alcohol and marijuana use which can worsen these effects.
Sanctura may increase your risk of heat stroke. Avoid hot weather, strenuous activity, and hot tubs. Drink plenty of fluids and stay cool.
Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of Sanctura, especially constipation, dry mouth, drowsiness, confusion, or trouble urinating. Drowsiness and confusion can increase the risk of falls.
During pregnancy, Sanctura should only be used when clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.
It is unknown if Sanctura passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
