Diamicron MR (Gliclazide modified release) is used for the control of blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes. It is employed when diet and exercise are not sufficient to control blood glucose. It can be used alone or together with insulin or other medicines for treating diabetes.

Gliclazide, the active ingredient in Diamicron MR, belongs to the class of medications called oral hypoglycemics. It increases the amount of insulin released by the pancreas and helps the body use insulin more efficiently.

It is used when diet, exercise, and weight reduction have not been found to control blood glucose well enough without medication

Do’s

  • Diamicron MR is a tablet taken orally.
  • Take Diamicron MR exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once or twice daily in the morning, 30 minutes before breakfast (refer to "Don't" below).
  • Swallow Diamicron MR tablets whole. Don't crush, chew, or break them.
  • If using Diamicron MR for diabetes, continue to monitor your blood sugar levels regularly as instructed by your healthcare provider.
  • Along with medication, maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine for optimal diabetes management.

Don'ts

  • Don’t take it with food (generally). Take Diamicron MR on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before breakfast, to maximize absorption. Consult your healthcare provider if this timing causes stomach upset.
  • Don't alter the dosage or how often you take Diamicron MR without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Don't suddenly stop taking Diamicron MR. Talk to your healthcare provider about proper discontinuation if needed.
  • Don't use it for someone else's condition: Diamicron MR is prescribed for your specific needs. Don't share it with others.
  • Don't Skip doses. Try to take Diamicron MR consistently at the same time(s) each day to maintain blood sugar control. However, if you miss a dose, don't take extra medication to compensate. Simply take your next dose as scheduled
