Zovirax cream pump is a topical medication used for the treatment of cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). It comes in a convenient pump dispenser, allowing for easy and controlled application of the cream to the affected area.

Zovirax cream pump contains acyclovir, which is an antiviral medication. Acyclovir works by inhibiting the replication of the herpes virus, thereby reducing the duration and severity of cold sores.

It can speed up the healing process and alleviate symptoms such as tingling, pain, burning, and itching associated with cold sores.

Zovirax cream pump is not a cure for the herpes virus and does not prevent the spread of the virus to others. It is intended for external use only and should not be applied to mucous membranes such as the mouth, eyes, or vagina.

Do’s:

  • Apply Zovirax at the first signs of a cold sore. This could be a tingling, itching, or burning sensation, or a small bump. Early treatment is most effective.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the cream. This helps prevent the spread of the cold sore virus.
  • Use a small amount of cream. A pea-sized amount is enough to cover the affected area.
  • Apply the cream to the cold sore and the surrounding area five times a day, about every four hours.
  • Continue using Zovirax for four days. If your cold sore hasn't healed after four days, consult your healthcare provider. You can continue using Zovirax for up to 10 days in total.

Don'ts:

  • Don't use Zovirax if you are allergic to acyclovir (the active ingredient) or any of the other ingredients in the cream.
  • Don't apply Zovirax to your eyes.
  • Don't touch the tip of the pump applicator to your lips or eyes. This can contaminate the cream with bacteria.
  • Don't share your Zovirax cream pump with others. Cold sores are contagious.
  • Don't use more Zovirax than the recommended amount. This will not make it work any faster and could increase your risk of side effects.
  • Don't apply makeup or other cosmetics over Zovirax until it dries completely.
