Itopride (Itopride Hydrochloride)

Do’s

• Take Itopride exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, usually before meals and at bedtime.
• Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets.
• Take Itopride for the full duration of treatment prescribed by your healthcare provider, even if you start to feel better.
• Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and herbal products you are taking, including prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs, as some can interact with Itopride.
• Tell your healthcare provider about your medical history, especially if you have liver or kidney problems, or a history of heart disease.

Don'ts

• Don't take more or less Itopride than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't take Itopride for longer than recommended by your healthcare provider.
• Don't take Itopride if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Don't operate machinery or drive after taking Itopride, as it may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
• Don't consume alcohol while taking Itopride, as it can worsen some side effects.
• Don't take Itopride if you have a blockage in your stomach or intestines.

Common Side Effects:

• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Headache
• Abdominal pain
• Dizziness
• Constipation

Serious Side Effects:

• Rash
• Giddiness
• Exhaustion
• Back or chest pain
• Increased salivation
• Galactorrhea (abnormal milk production)
• Gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue in males)

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Itopride,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Discuss any allergies you have with your healthcare provider, especially to itopride or any inactive ingredients in the tablets.

Inform your healthcare provider about your medical history before using itopride, particularly if you have:

• Blockage or perforation (tear) in your stomach or intestines
• Gastrointestinal bleeding
• Liver or kidney disease
• Heart problems (certain arrhythmias)
• Epilepsy or a history of seizures
• Parkinson's disease

Itopride may cause side effects like diarrhea, nausea, headache, dizziness, stomach pain, constipation, and decreased white blood cell count.

Itopride can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you feel safe.

Itopride should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if itopride passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while using itopride.

Itopride may not be effective for people with stomach ulcers or severe gastrointestinal diseases.

Using higher doses of itopride or being elderly may increase the risk of side effects.

Data on the safety of long-term itopride use is limited. Discuss this with your healthcare provider if you require extended treatment.
