Folic Acid (Folate)

Folic Acid (Folate) is a water-soluble vitamin and part of the vitamin B family, which is vitamin B9 or B12. It is found in leafy green vegetables, legumes, nuts, and fortified foods. Folic Acid has several important functions in the body to prevent folate deficiency and long-term red blood cell damage. It is also important for pregnant women to have enough Folate to help prevent neural tube defects in babies. A poor diet or poor absorption of food can lead to a deficiency in Folic Acid. It is important to increase the use of Folate for people with coeliac disease and people with sprue. Folate Deficiency Anaemia Rosaria (anemia), caused by a lack of vitamin B12 or folic acid, causes the body to produce abnormally large red blood cells that cannot function properly. Red blood cells employ the chemical hemoglobin to deliver oxygen throughout the body.
