Lotemax (Loteprednol)

Do's

• Do not wear contact lenses while using Lotemax. Consult your healthcare provider before using them again.
• Wash your hands before applying the ointment.
• Apply a 1.5 cm strip of ointment into the pouch formed by pulling down your lower eyelid.
• Close your eyes and roll your eyeballs to spread the medication.
• Repeat for the other eye if instructed.
• Wipe off excess ointment from the tip with a clean tissue.
• Wait 5-10 minutes before using other eye medications. Apply eye drops first, then ointments.
• Wait for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.

Use Lotemax regularly for the full prescribed duration to get the most benefit. Continue using Lotemax even if you feel better to complete the treatment and prevent relapse. Do not stop using Lotemax suddenly without consulting your healthcare provider. Your healthcare provider may need to gradually decrease your dose. Do not use it more often or for longer than prescribed.

Do not use contaminated Lotemax ointment. Discard it if it changes color or develops particles. Tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens or doesn't improve after a few days of using Lotemax.

Common side effects may include:

• Blurred vision or other changes in vision
• Redness or swelling of the eye
• Sensitivity of the eyes to light
• Swelling of the membrane covering the white part of the eye
• Eye discomfort, irritation, or pain
• Discharge from the eye

Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include:

• Decreased vision
• Swelling of the cornea
• Eye pain
• Light sensitivity
• Superficial punctate keratitis
• Signs of high pressure inside the eyes
• Signs of cataracts

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Lotemax,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Disclose any allergies to Loteprednol or other ingredients to your healthcare provider.

Share your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have:

• Eye infections
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma (open-angle type)
• Severe nearsightedness (myopia)
• Diabetes

Temporary blurred vision is possible after application. Avoid activities requiring clear vision until it clears.

Inform your healthcare provider or dentist about all medications you take before surgery, including prescription, non-prescription, and herbal products.

Seek guidance from your healthcare provider if you experience a new eye infection, injury, or require eye surgery while using Lotemax. They might advise using a new tube of ointment.

Do not use Lotemax in children after eye surgery due to potential vision issues.

Use Lotemax only when clearly necessary and discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. In addition, consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while using Lotemax.
