Prolensa is specifically indicated for the treatment of swelling (inflammation) and pain in the eye subsequent to a specific type of eye surgery known as cataract surgery.

This medication provides relief from post-surgical inflammation and pain, facilitating the recovery process for individuals who have undergone cataract surgery.

Prolensa contains Bromfenac, which belongs to the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Its mode of action involves the inhibition of certain natural substances called prostaglandins, which are responsible for inducing pain and inflammation. By blocking the effects of prostaglandins, Prolensa effectively mitigates both pain and inflammation in the eye following cataract surgery.

Do’s

  • Use Prolensa exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once or twice daily for 2 weeks.
  • Follow your healthcare provider's instructions on when to start using Prolensa, especially if it's related to eye surgery.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before each use.
  • Tilt your head back, look up, and create a pouch with your lower eyelid to administer the drops.
  • Instill one drop directly into the affected eye(s) while avoiding contact between the dropper tip and your eye or any other surface.
  • Close your eyes gently for 1-2 minutes after application and press the inner corner with a finger to prevent drainage.
  • If using other eye medications, wait 5-10 minutes between applications. Use drops before ointments.
  • Continue using Prolensa for the entire prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve.

Don'ts

  • Don't use Prolensa if you wear contact lenses. Remove them before application and wait for recommended time before reinserting.
  • Don't apply more than the prescribed dose or use Prolensa for longer than directed.
  • Don't rinse the dropper tip after use. Replace the cap securely.
  • Don't rub your eye after applying the drops.
  • Don't drive or operate machinery until your vision clears after using Prolensa.
