Brisdelle (Paroxetine)

Do’s

• Take Brisdelle exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Read the Medication Guide before starting and with each refill.
• Take it once daily, usually at bedtime, with or without food.
• Take it consistently, even if you feel well.
• Talk to your healthcare provider before stopping Brisdelle.
• Report any new or worsening symptoms to your healthcare provider.
• Discuss any concerns about Brisdelle with your healthcare provider.

Don'ts

• Don't change brands of paroxetine without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't stop taking Brisdelle abruptly.
• Don't take more than the prescribed dose.
• Don't miss doses frequently.

Common side effects:

• Shakiness (tremor)
• Restlessness
• Inability to keep still
• Decreased interest in sex
• Changes in sexual ability
• Numbness/tingling
• Easy bleeding/bruising
• Fast/irregular heartbeat
• Muscle weakness/spasm
• Mental/mood changes (such as difficulty concentrating, confusion)
• Sleepiness
• Constipation
• Feeling anxious
• Sweatiness
• Weakness

Serious side effects (seek medical attention if experienced):

• Seizures
• Black stools
• Vomit that looks like coffee grounds
• Eye pain/swelling
• Allergic reaction
• Bone fractures
• Changes in behaviors or feelings
• Akathisia (feeling an inner sense of restlessness)
• Hyponatremia (low levels of sodium in your blood)
• Serotonin syndrome (high levels of the chemical serotonin)
• Sexual problems
• Risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors
• Bleeding or bruising
• Vision problems

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Brisdelle,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider if you have any allergies to Brisdelle or its ingredients.

Inform your healthcare provider about your medical history, especially bipolar disorder, suicide attempts, liver problems, kidney problems, low sodium, seizures, bleeding issues, glaucoma, or if you take medications that can cause bleeding.

Brisdelle may cause dizziness, drowsiness, and blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you are sure you can do them safely. Don't drink alcohol or use marijuana while taking Brisdelle.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including prescription, non-prescription, and herbal) before surgery or dental procedures.

Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects, especially bleeding, loss of coordination, and hyponatremia (especially if taking diuretics). Loss of coordination can increase the risk of falls.

Children may be more sensitive to side effects, especially weight loss. Monitor weight and height in children taking Brisdelle.

Brisdelle is not recommended for pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers. It may harm the unborn baby and pass into breast milk. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.
