Lipidil Supra is indicated for the following conditions:

  1. Severe Hypertriglyceridemia: Lipidil Supra is used as adjunctive therapy, along with a proper diet, to reduce triglycerides (TG) in patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia. Improving glycemic control in diabetic patients showing fasting chylomicronemia may obviate the need for pharmacological intervention. However, the effect of Lipidil Supra therapy on reducing the risk of developing pancreatitis in patients with markedly elevated levels of serum triglycerides has not been adequately studied.
  2. Primary Hypercholesterolemia or Mixed Dyslipidemia: Lipidil Supra is also used as adjunctive therapy, along with a proper diet, to reduce elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (Total-C), triglycerides (TG), and apolipoprotein B (Apo B). It is also used to increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia.

Do’s

  • Lipidil Supra is typically taken by mouth as directed by a healthcare provider, usually once daily with food. The dosage is based on the individual's medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Take this medication regularly to obtain the most benefit from it and take it at the same time each day to help remember. 
  • Even if you feel well, continue taking the medication, as most people with high cholesterol/triglycerides do not feel sick.
  • If you are also taking certain other drugs to lower cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), take Lipidil Supra at least 1 hour before or at least 4 to 6 hours after taking these medications. These medications can bind to fenofibrate, preventing the body from fully absorbing the drug.
  • Follow your healthcare provider’s advice regarding diet and exercise while taking Lipidil Supra. It may take up to 2 months before the full benefit of the medication is realized.

Don’ts

  • Do not increase the dose or use this medication more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed, as this may not lower cholesterol/triglyceride levels faster and may increase the risk of side effects. 

Common Side Effects:

  • Headaches
  • Heartburn
  • Nausea
  • Muscle aches 

Serious Side Effects:

  • Signs of liver problems, such as dark urine, general feeling of being unwell, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or yellowing of the eyes or skin 
  • Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, chills, or fever

Lipidil Supra is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease.

Lipidil Supra should not be used in patients with gallbladder disease.

Lipidil Supra should not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding without consulting a healthcare provider.
