Zeffix (Lamivudine)

Do’s

• Try to find the medication leaflet: This leaflet, often included with the medication, outlines manufacturer instructions for safe use.
• Take consistently: Strive to take Zeffix tablets at the same time(s) each day, with or without food, to maintain consistent levels of the medication in your body.
• Swallow whole: Swallow the tablets whole. Do not crush, chew, or break them.
• Contact your healthcare provider: They prescribed Zefix and have access to your medical history. They can provide the most up-to-date information on safe usage specific to your condition.
• Store the medication safely: Keep it out of reach of children and pets, following any storage instructions on the label or leaflet.

Don'ts

• Don't take more than the prescribed dosage.
• Don't give your medication to someone else.
• Don't stop taking your medication without consulting your healthcare provider. Abruptly stopping some medications can be dangerous.
• Don't mix medications without checking for interactions. This includes over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
• Don't use it for other conditions: Zeffix is specifically for Hepatitis B treatment. Don't use it for other purposes without consulting your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects:

• Headache
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Nausea
• Fatigue/tiredness
• Abdominal discomfort and pain
• Coughing with phlegm not associated with cold and flu
• Dizziness
• Abnormal liver function tests
• Muscle disorder, including muscle pain and cramps

Serious Side Effects:

• Rapid and/or deep breathing
• Weakness
• Feeling sick or generally unwell
• Vomiting
• Abdominal pain
• Loss of appetite
• Weight loss
• Other serious side effects

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Zeffix, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider about any allergies you have to lamivudine or any ingredients in Zeffix.

Inform your healthcare provider about your medical history, particularly:

• Liver disease (including hepatitis B or C co-infection)
• Mitochondrial diseases
• Kidney problems
• Pancreatitis

Zeffix should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. Zeffix may be used with other medications to prevent mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B.

It is unknown if Zeffix passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of breastfeeding while taking Zeffix.

Zeffix may increase sun sensitivity. Use sunscreen and protective clothing outdoors.

Your healthcare provider will order regular blood tests to monitor your liver function, blood cell counts, and viral load (amount of hepatitis B virus) during treatment.

Zeffix can interact with other medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and herbal products.
