Silkis ointment is indicated for the topical treatment of mild to moderately severe plaque psoriasis (psoriasis vulgaris) with up to 35% of body surface area involvement.

Do’s

  • If available, read the patient information leaflet provided with the medication before you start using Silkis ointment. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification.
  • Wash the affected area of your skin gently and pat it dry before applying the ointment.
  • Apply a thin layer of Silkis ointment to the affected areas of the skin as directed by your healthcare provider. Typically, the ointment is applied twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Be sure to follow the specific instructions provided to you.
  • Apply the ointment only to the areas of the skin affected by psoriasis. Gently rub it in until it is absorbed.
  • After applying Silkis ointment, wash your hands thoroughly, unless you are using the medication to treat your hands.
  • Use Silkis ointment regularly at the same times each day to get the most benefit from it. This will help you remember to apply it consistently.
  • Keep track of any changes in your skin condition while using Silkis ointment. If your condition does not improve or worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • Do not apply Silkis ointment to the face, eyes, nose, mouth, or inside the vagina. If the ointment accidentally comes into contact with any of these areas, flush them with plenty of water.
  • Do not apply Silkis ointment to a larger area of skin, use it more often, or use it for a longer duration than prescribed by your healthcare provider. Using more than the recommended amount does not improve results and may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area where Silkis ointment is applied unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects:

  • Skin irritation or redness at the application site
  • Itching or burning sensation
  • Dry skin
  • Skin rash or dermatitis

If any of these side effects worsen or persist, stop using Silkis ointment and seek medical advice from a healthcare provider.

If you experience any other symptoms that you think may be related to the use of Silkis ointment, consult your healthcare provider for further advice

Silkis ointment does not require any special storage precautions. It can be stored at room temperature. However, once the tube is opened, the ointment should be used within 8 weeks.

Excessive use of Silkis ointment can lead to systemic side effects, such as an increase in urine and serum calcium levels. However, clinically significant hypercalcemia (high calcium levels) has not been observed in studies with a dosage under 30 grams per day.

In the absence of compatibility studies, Silkis ointment should not be mixed with other medicinal products.

There is no experience with the use of Silkis ointment in children, and therefore, it should not be used in children.
