Parlodel (Bromocriptine) is used alone or in combination with other medications, such as levodopa, to treat Parkinson's disease. It aims to improve movement ability, reduce tremors, stiffness, slowed movement, and unsteadiness, and may decrease the frequency of episodes of the "on-off syndrome."

Bromocriptine is indicated to address high levels of prolactin, a hormone produced by the body. Elevated prolactin levels can lead to issues such as unwanted breast milk, irregular menstrual cycles, fertility challenges, decreased sperm production, and reduced sexual ability. It is also used to treat prolactin-secreting adenomas, a type of tumor that causes high prolactin levels, with the potential to reduce tumor size.

Additionally, Bromocriptine can be used to treat high levels of growth hormone in a condition known as acromegaly.

As an ergot medication, Bromocriptine acts similarly to dopamine in the brain and inhibits the release of certain hormones, including growth hormone and prolactin. While it can lower these hormone levels, it does not cure the underlying causes of the increased levels.
