Exjade is indicated for the treatment of chronic iron overload due to blood transfusions in patients aged 2 years and older. It is also used for the treatment of chronic iron overload in patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia syndromes. Exjade is an iron chelator that binds to iron and removes it from the body.

Common Side Effects:
Serious Side Effects:
This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Exjade, report them to your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
Exjade should not be used if you have severe kidney or liver disease, advanced cancer, a blood cell or bone marrow disorder, or low levels of platelets in your blood.
Exjade can potentially harm the liver or kidneys. Seek medical attention if you experience symptoms such as swelling, rapid weight gain, shortness of breath, pain in the upper stomach, loss of appetite, little or no urination, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
Exjade can cause gastrointestinal hemorrhages, which may be fatal, especially in elderly patients with advanced hematologic malignancies and/or low platelet counts. Monitor for symptoms and discontinue Exjade for suspected gastrointestinal ulceration or hemorrhage.
Avoid the use of Exjade in patients with severe hepatic impairment and reduce the dose in patients with moderate hepatic impairment.
Interrupt Exjade for pediatric patients who have acute illnesses that can cause volume depletion, such as vomiting, diarrhea, or prolonged decreased oral intake, and monitor more frequently. Resume therapy as appropriate based on assessments of renal function when oral intake and volume status are normal.
Consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice and guidance regarding the use of Exjade, especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions or are taking other medications.
