Xiidra is used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. It is specifically designed to target a source of inflammation that can cause dry eye disease, providing relief for some patients with continued twice-daily use.

The ophthalmic solution contains lifitegrast, a lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist. It works by inhibiting the binding of LFA-1 on T cells with ICAM-1, which may be overexpressed on the ocular surface in dry eye disease.

Do’s

  • Use Xiidra exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically twice daily (every 12 hours) in the affected eye(s).
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the drops.
  • Hold the single-use container upright and gently tap it to ensure the solution moves to the tip.
  • Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch.
  • Place one drop into the pouch, without touching the tip of the container to your eye or any other surface.
  • Gently close your eyes and press your finger at the inner corner for 1-2 minutes to prevent drainage.
  • Repeat for your other eye if needed.
  • Use Xiidra consistently at the same times each day.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after using Xiidra.

Don'ts

  • Don't open the single-use container until you're ready to use it. Discard the remaining solution after each use.
  • Don't wear contact lenses while applying Xiidra. Wait at least 15 minutes after using the drops before inserting lenses.
  • Don't touch the tip of the container to your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
  • Don't rub your eye after applying the drops.
  • Don't drive or operate machinery until your vision clears after using Xiidra.
