Nilstat Oral Suspension is indicated for the treatment of candidiasis in the oral cavity.

Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by Candida species, commonly known as oral thrush. Nilstat Oral Suspension contains the antifungal medication nystatin, which works by binding to sterols in the cell membrane of susceptible Candida species, resulting in a change in membrane permeability and leakage of intracellular components.

Do’s

  • The usual dose of Nilstat Oral Suspension is 1mL (100,000 units) four times a day. This dosage is the same for infants, children, and adults. However, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different dose based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Shake the bottle well before each dose to ensure proper mixing of the medication. Use the specially marked syringe provided with Nilstat Oral Suspension to measure the dose accurately.
  • Drop 1mL of the suspension into the mouth using the syringe. Try not to swallow the suspension too quickly.
  • Unless your doctor instructs you otherwise, place half of the dose in one side of the mouth. Swish it around the mouth, gargle, and swallow or spit out as directed. Then repeat with the remaining half of the dose on the other side of the mouth.
  • The duration of treatment with Nilstat Oral Suspension can vary from several days to several months, depending on the specific condition being treated. Use this medication regularly and at the same times each day to get the most benefit from it.
  • Continue using Nilstat Oral Suspension until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow the infection to continue and result in a return of the infection.
  • If your condition lasts after several days of treatment or if it gets worse, consult your healthcare provider.
