Withhold Steglatro for at least 4 days, if possible, before major surgery or procedures associated with prolonged fasting. It should be resumed when the patient is clinically stable and has resumed oral intake.

Patients should be informed that symptomatic hypotension may occur with Steglatro, and they should contact their healthcare provider if they experience such symptoms. Dehydration may increase the risk of hypotension, so adequate fluid intake is advised.

The incidence of hypoglycemia may increase when Steglatro is added to insulin and/or an insulin secretagogue. Patients or caregivers should be educated on the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia.

Patients 65 years and older had a higher incidence of adverse reactions related to volume depletion compared to younger patients.

Assessment of renal function is recommended before initiation of Steglatro and periodically thereafter. In patients with volume depletion, this condition should be corrected before initiating Steglatro.

Steglatro is not recommended for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, as it may increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis in these patients.
