Aczone (dapsone) is a prescription medication available as a topical gel used to treat acne vulgaris, commonly known as acne. It is specifically indicated for reducing the number and severity of acne pimples and helping them heal faster.

Dapsone is particularly effective for inflammatory acne breakouts, including large and inflamed pimples such as cystic acne. It can also provide some benefits for non-inflammatory breakouts like blackheads and milia.

Do’s

  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after applying the gel.
  • Cleanse the affected area with a gentle cleanser and pat it dry.
  • Apply a pea-sized amount to the affected area(s) as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once or twice daily.
  • Rub the gel in gently and avoid your eyes and lips.
  • Use the medication consistently, ideally at the same time(s) each day.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if your acne doesn't improve after 12 weeks.

Don'ts

  • Get the gel in your eyes. If contact occurs, flush with water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
  • Use more than the recommended amount or use it more frequently.
  • Expect faster improvement by using more gel or using it more often.
