Symbicort Turbuhaler is indicated for the following conditions:

Asthma:

  • Symbicort Turbuhaler is indicated for adults and adolescents 12 years and older for regular treatment of asthma where the combined use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and long-acting 2 adrenoceptor agonists (LABA) is appropriate.
  • It is also indicated in children with moderate asthma aged 6 years for regular maintenance treatment with a separate rapid-acting bronchodilator as rescue. However, it is not intended for the initial management of asthma and is not appropriate for patients with severe asthma.
  • Symbicort Turbuhaler is also indicated as a reliever therapy for adults and adolescents (12 years and older) with mild asthma.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD):

  • Symbicort Turbuhaler is indicated in adults, aged 18 years and older, for the symptomatic treatment of patients with COPD with forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) <70% predicted normal (post-bronchodilator) and an exacerbation history despite regular bronchodilator therapy.

Symbicort Turbuhaler is a combined corticosteroid and bronchodilator inhaler used to reduce inflammation in the lungs and open the airways in asthma and COPD.

Do’s

  • The starting dose of Symbicort Turbuhaler is based on the control of symptoms. After asthma symptoms are controlled, the dose is adjusted to the lowest regular dose that prevents asthma symptoms.
  • The medication is inhaled into the lungs through the mouth using the Turbuhaler device. Your healthcare provider will demonstrate the proper usage of the device. If unsure about how to use the device, ask your healthcare provider.
  • Use this medication exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • Regular daily use of this medication is important for its effectiveness, even when not experiencing any symptoms.
  • This medication should be stored at room temperature with the cover on tight and kept out of the reach of children.
  • If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible, but if it's almost time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped.
  • Many factors can affect the dose of medication needed, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. Therefore, any changes to the prescribed dosage should be made only after consulting with a healthcare provider.

Symbicort Turbuhaler is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, some medicines might not be suitable for individuals with asthma or COPD, and certain medications such as beta-blockers should not generally be taken by people using Symbicort Turbuhaler, as they can cause the airways to narrow, resulting in breathing difficulties.
